PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The entire facility consisted of fixtures which operated on a combination of T12 Magnetic fluorescent, HID and Incandescent light fixtures. Within the office areas at Purolator our solution used specially designed reflectors, high efficiency electronic ballasts, and reduced wattage T8 lamps to reduce the quantity of T8 lamps and energy consumed yet maintaining required light levels. In the warehouse areas the solution involved the use of new high-bay T5 high-output linear fluorescent fixtures that allowed for a more uniform distribution of light with instant on capability yet only consuming close to half the energy of the existing fixtures. To yield further energy savings, a sophisticated control system was installed to take advantage of Purolator’s work shifts to allow the lighting to be switched in stages depending on the amount of activity present in the facility. This method provided a balance between productivity, safety and conservation that was not possible with their existing controls.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Across Canada, ENS has replaced HID lighting (250W or 400W Metal Halide) with energy efficient fluorescent lighting on the sales floor, reducing the load by nearly 50% per fixture. Incandescent sources were replaced with the newest LED technology, which would not only decrease the energy use but also reduce the frequency of service calls.

NUMBER OF FACILITIES COMPLETED:
83 (As of December 2013)

DURATION OF PROJECT:
2011 – Ongoing

ANNUAL ENERGY SAVINGS:
In 2013, Mark’s Lighting Retrofit project reported a projected annual cost avoidance of approximately $176,000 as a direct result of energy savings.

PAYBACK MEASURE:
Less than 5 years
